Hero Background

Every Girls Dream

Empowering change through activism and action

About Our Organization

The organization was founded by a survivor of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), stemming directly from her own FGM experience. This deeply personal motivation drives Every Girls Dream to act as a crucial platform for addressing the devastating negative effects of FGM, while also serving as an avenue to empower women and girls.

Every Girls Dream is dedicated to helping individual girls/women and groups to realize their full potential as human beings by embracing progressive change and taking practical actions to better their lives. Their approach is practical, participatory, and partnership-building. They invest in proactive capacity development to build a critical mass of girls and women who can play a positive role in promoting sustainable socio-economic and political development throughout Kenya that is socially acceptable, gender-sensitive, and environmentally friendly.

Biography

As a survivor of FGM, Aisha’s advocacy is deeply personal. Her journey began in 2017 after experiencing complications during childbirth linked to FGM. This life-changing experience fueled her determination to ensure that no girl in her community—or beyond—has to endure the same harm. She believes that real change starts at the grassroots, which is why she works directly with communities in Isiolo County, engaging women, girls, elders, and religious leaders in meaningful dialogue to challenge harmful traditions and promote alternative rites of passage.

Under her leadership, Every Girl’s Dream has implemented initiatives that focus on education, economic empowerment, and leadership development for girls and young women. Through scholarships, mentorship programs, and safe spaces, Aisha has helped vulnerable girls stay in school and access opportunities that build their confidence and independence. She also uses innovative advocacy approaches, including film and arts-based storytelling, to raise awareness, spark conversation, and influence social norms around FGM and gender equality.

Aisha’s impact reaches beyond her community. She has represented grassroots voices on international platforms, speaking at the United Nations, including the Summit of the Future and the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), amplifying the stories and needs of girls and women from rural communities.

Driven by a vision of a world where every girl is safe, educated, and empowered, Aisha continues to inspire communities to take ownership of change, ensuring that future generations can live free from FGM and harmful practices.
